In a small village in southern Finland, the middle-aged sisters Taina and Pirkko have promised to make 100 liters of their famous strong home-brewed beer, sahti, for a family wedding. UPDATE: This screening is sold out in the presale. Last minute tickets may still be available on site (not guaranteed).
Their third sister is getting married, so Taina and Pirkko promise to deliver 100 liters of sahti, a Finnish rye beer. But their brew is so delicious that they end up drinking it all themselves. Wrestling with a pounding hangover, they find themselves in a series of hysterical misunderstandings as they race against the clock to brew more beer, save the wedding, and restore their reputation as the best sahti brewers in the village.
100 Liters of Gold is a tribute to small villages and to sahti, Finland’s liquid gold. The film offers dark humor with a big heart and showcases the pride that Finns have in this traditional brew. Sahti is consumed on Midsummer’s Day, at Christmas, weddings, funerals—or simply because you want to celebrate. The drink has a legendary reputation for filling you up, getting you tipsy—and if you drink too much, it comes back up.
