At Pluk, you catch films before they reach Dutch cinemas, if they ever get there at all. Titles almost no one’s heard of yet, the kind that stay with you for days, or that you can’t wait to tell someone about because you’ve never seen anything quite like them. From offbeat indies to experimental animation, exactly the films you’ll still be talking about hours later, under the stars with a drink in hand.
Under the stars in Amsterdam & Utrecht
At Pluk, the evening matters as much as the film. Eleven nights at the Stenen Hoofd in Amsterdam, ten in Utrecht. Outside, under the stars, in a beach chair with a blanket, next to friends, your date or someone you’ve just met. A film you might never have picked yourself, and a place to talk it over long after the lights come up.
What kind of films do we show?
We go for filmmakers with a voice of their own, often young or yet to be discovered, and give them a stage at Pluk. Some go on to make it big. We screened Taika Waititi’s debut (Jojo Rabbit, Thor: Ragnarok) and work by Maren Ade (Toni Erdmann) long before the world caught on.
Our films come from festivals like Cannes, Berlin and Venice, the bold, original titles you’ll rarely find in a Dutch cinema. Sharp, tender, absurd or moving, always with a fresh perspective. No algorithm deciding what you watch, just people choosing films that get under your skin and stay there.
A one-of-a-kind film experience
Our scouts comb through festivals worldwide, with a keen eye for debuts and voices that rarely get a shot in the mainstream. The result is a surprising mix of features, documentaries, shorts and animation, from absurd rom-coms to AI animation. There’s always something you won’t see coming. And Pluk is a place to experiment, too: from crying contests to live conversations with AI on the big screen.
